Clumsiness
Clumsiness can affect between 40 to 70 per cent of people with learning difficulties to some degree. Clumsiness, poor spatial awareness and poor coordination are often seen together because these problems are associated with problems in controlling physical movement.
People who are clumsy may have difficulties with catching balls and learning to ride bicycles. They are also likely have a tendency to bump into things and knock things over. These symptoms can vary in severity depending on the development of the cerebellum and the brain’s ability to coordinate physical movement.
In many cases the improvement in coordination skills of those we help is very significant: through the repetitive and progressive exercises the connections needed in the brain to control physical movement are developed to help the cerebellum function correctly.
