Spelling Abilities
Adults and children can be affected by problems with spelling. However it is a problem that is thought to affect around 90 per cent of children. Difficulties in spelling are caused by a combination of symptoms: poor eye tracking and an inability to sequence words in the working memory: making it very difficult to remember how to spell words.
The Dore program is designed to develop the cerebellum so that it functions correctly. Our approach to correcting learning problems means that poor spelling ability is one of the last symptoms to improve. This is because people have to ‘unlearn’ their original strategies for spelling before being able to adopt the natural way to learning. Therefore children doing the program will see improvements in spelling before adults because they are still being taught how to spell.
